Podcasting for Profit

So you have a podcast. That's great, but don't quit your day job just yet. Unfortunately, unless you're Ricky Gervais it might be more than just a little difficult to make money off podcasting. If you are Ricky Gervais: A.) Can I borrow some money? B.) Can I guest star on the new video podcast?So why aren't there more podcast millionaires? Most podcasts don't have the audience necessary to generate any significant ad revenue. The other problem being that as podcasting grows, so do the number of shows targeting the same audience. The larger and more successful podcasts can generate revenue by charging subscription fees for their shows, or even by charging for the back catalogue of shows. Even amongst the larger corporations, excepting The Wall Street Journal, and Consumer Reports, most haven't been able to sell enough subscriptions to their web-based content to be anywhere close to profitable. Apparently just having a recognizable brand isn't enough to sell subscriptions alone.The key is finding ways to make podcasts engaging, and effective. Right now businesses are using podcasting as a marketing tool to attract clients in much the same way that blogs lead to exposure for other businesses. There is no reason that podcasts can't generate revenue. For example if you host a show on llama herding, it's possible (although not probable) that 2,000 llama herding enthusiasts might subscribe. If you have a large niche marketing then advertising might work for you. Who's to say that if an enterprising podcaster rounded up an audience of 7,000 listeners interested in basket weaving, then why wouldn't a basket weaving company want to advertise to that audience? The key is finding a podcast with quality content and advertisers who need to reach that specific audience. What is needed essentially is a matchmaker of sorts to help the shows and advertisers find one another.The other problem is getting web users to find and subscribe to podcasts. While it may seem like just about everyone knows about podcasting the truth is that there is a good majority of people who still haven't. In an interview last year Yahoo Chief Products Officer Geoff Ralston pointed this particular problem out. "…the fact is that what we really want to do at Yahoo is to bring podcasting to the mainstream, and for that to happen people have to learn about it. So we've created a site where it's really easy to learn about it, and like I said, you'll be able to find podcasts eventually everywhere on Yahoo. So as you're reading your news, which of course many millions of people do every day week, and month on Yahoo, you will start to be introduced to podcasts and start to be introduced to the podcast experience of the site and that will actually start to bring you into the community of podcasters. And it is a community! One of the key aspects of Yahoo Podcasts is that the community is what gives it strength and gives the feeling of the site. The site also allows people to rate podcasts to create the ability for people to find the podcasts that matter. "Podcasting is still a new medium and so there's plenty of room for growth and change. The real key to making money with podcasting is finding a way to use traditional methods of generating revenue along side newer methods. Blizzard and World of Warcraft Gold Sellers

Many World of Warcraft players today likes to buy WoW gold, items, accounts and power leveling sessions, but blizzard along with other players consider this an act of cheating. Well, you have the ability to enhance your character to a much higher level or better quality items, weapons, armors and other equipment with real money. It's unfair for those players who does not have the extra cash to spare or would prefer to play it the old fashion way. But for example, we all know what Nintendo is right? Well when game shark came out did Nintendo try to stop or prevent them from selling? No, they didn't. But of course, for those who chose to cheat the game was not required to play with others that didn't want to cheat. So that is one conclusion as to why players and Blizzard does not approve of selling or buying gold.

Disruption from Warcraft gold farmers. Yes I'm sure we've all experienced that farming now a days have been a little difficult due to the overwhelming population of WoW gold farmers. If gold wasn't able to be sold using real money the farmers wouldn't exist and players would probably be able to enjoy the game more. Perhaps blizzard should enforce a law to farming? Or allow players to tag a mob and allow them preparation time to kill the mob they were targeting? Well, Blizzard is not a government and even if so, the government today isn't perfect either.
Another reason why I can understand players hate the idea of buying/selling gold is because it disrupts the economy. If there is excess gold, then the value of gold drops and the value of the item will rise causing players to spend more gold on the item than what they would normally need to pay. Basic economics 101, inflation and deflation. A player can only farm an X amount of gold over a given period of time. The more gold there is, the more the item will cost, the more a player will have to farm unless they purchase the gold of course.
Well with all these problems involving selling gold, why hasn't Blizzard done something? I believe they probably are working on a solution but believe it not, farmers do make up about 30% of their population. Somewhere in the back of their mind I'm sure they don't want to get rid of all subscribers. What they do instead is ban a few at a time and they would be required to buy a new world of warcraft cd key. Extra cash flow for the mighty O Blizzard. Yes farmers and sellers do get their accounts banned. But have not heard of any buyers getting banned however. Lucky for us?
As some of you may know, another popular mmorpg publisher is Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) with their many leading titles including the first MMORPG hit EverQuest, Star Wars Galaxies, and EverQuest 2. Why am I bringing up SOE? Because they have introduced the Sony Exchange. The Sony Exchange is a secure market place for players to auction their currencies and items to other players for real cash. In return SOE of course takes in a small fee for themselves. Charming isn't it? Well along with this new innovative idea, they also of plans of releasing a new game where they will be selling currencies and items themselves. That pretty much just beats the second paragraph of not cheating. But of course I'm sure they will create specific servers where the purchasing/selling of virtual assets will not be allowed.
If SOE is getting into the secondary market why can't the players? I do wonder if Blizzard should decide to get into the secondary market themselves. Believe it or not, but World of Warcraft subscriber base more than quadruples what SOE has in total. As you can see SOE is accepting the new trend and making a huge load of profit, I'm sure Blizzard would follow up on the idea as well. EverQuest was the first mmorpg hit ever, Blizzard known for their real time strategy games now has the most popular mmorpg as well. I wouldn't see why they won't follow and collect some of the cash themselves. Overall, although we do not know of Blizzards intentions for those who buys WoW gold, I can say for sure that I do not know a single person who has gotten their accounts banned for buying WoW gold. The Road to CCNA

There are two ways to handle any exam.You can read and prepare to pass the exam and pass the exam and become certified without learning the real thing. Things like TestKing and Pass4sure might help in this. On the other hand, you can study,learn and prepare yourself for the exam along the way. And that's something I might be helpful in managing.I will not tell you things like "Take your CCNA in 3 days" or five days, because these are all mere lies. I will guide you through depending on my experience as a Cisco Academy instructor and having lots of students who passed the exam with grades from 950 to 1000.Based upon my experience, a month would be adequate for understanding the CCNA materials as well as prepare yourself for the exam. First, I will go through the studying schedule and then I will go on further details regarding the exam and how to prepare for it and how to pass it.First of all, prepare yourself for studying 4 hours a day, 6 days a week, for 4 weeks. This gives us an overall of 96 hours of study. And be careful not to pass hours from one day to another. DO NOT study for more than 4 hours a day. It will be tiring, and things you read after the four hours will have to be studied again because you will not be able to understand it. During these four hours you MUST have 30 minutes break. After the first hour and 45 minutes, you should take a 30 minutes break and go back for the other hour and 45 minutes.For self study purposes, I recommend using the Cisco Press CCNA package. It has two books by Stephen McQuerry; INTRO (for the basics of networking) and ICND (Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices). These two books cover the CCNA materials well. It's like a collection of the useful things from the CCNA academy materials.If you are looking for a more brief coverage of the CCNA materials, you can use the Todd Lammle's book in its 5th edition printed by Sybex. But the problem with this book is that it doesn't cover the whole story. It lacks the two very important subjects of NAT and DHCP, which are practically very important. And I have put together some simple documents about NAT and DHCP that can help students depending on Lammle's book. You can find them here and here.And for practical training, if you cannot borrow an old router, you can use a simulator. Many type of simulator are out there in the market and lots of them are useless. Few of the good ones that I recommend are either Boson's or the one that is sold by Cisco Press. And to be honest, the best simulator that I have seen until now is called PacketTracer. This is the router used by Cisco Academies for thier student. And I don't think its available for public use outside the academy.I will do the schedule based on subject titles and not on chapters so you could go either way with Lammle's book or McQuerry's books.Subject-Description-HoursIntroduction to networks and internetworks-getting to know the essence of networking and knowing the OSI layered model and the distinguished responsibilities of each layer-4Ethernet-Understanding ethernet and its frame types, CSMA/CD and its cabling types-3TCP/IP-Knowing TCP/IP layered model and Cisco Hierarical layerd model. Understanding the different type of protocols for each layer-5Subnetting and VLSM-Subnetting is an essential part of understanding how IP networks work. Practice as much as you can-8Cisco Routers-Knowing the pieces of routers and how they interact, types of interfaces and lines, how to connect to a router for configration purposes, and Basic router configration-4Routing Protocols-Distance vector and link state protocols, what are the differences between them. Routing loops and thier avoidance is an important topic too-4RIP & IGRP-Understanding the methods of operation, programming, testing, and troubleshooting of each protocol and what are the differences between them-6OSPF & EIGRP-Understanding the methods of operation, programming, testing, and troubleshooting of each protocol and what are the differences between them-6NAT & DHCP-What are they and how to configure, test, and troubleshoot them-4Network Management-How to manage an internetwork, SNMP, telnet and all other things that helps to test and manage a network including password recovery procedures-4Access-Lists-What are access-lists, how do they operate, how to decide which type and where and how to implement them. More and more practice is important in this subject-8Switches-What are the types of switches and what are thier parameters. How to do basic configration of Cisco switches. Switching loops and STP are a key issue here-4VLANs and VTP-Understanding the reason and operation of VLANs, trunking and VTP. Inter-VLAN routing is an important issue-8WANs-In real life you will not find a network without WAN connection. You have to master the types of WAN connections and where and why each one is used. Configration, testing, and troubleshooting of PPP, FrameRelay, and ISDN are important-12Exam preparation-Going through all topic and reading solved questions might be useful too-12 And this would leave you extra 4 hours that can be kept as a spare time.After stating this schedule, I will start talking about the exam itself. The exam consists of 55 to 65 questions. Most of them are multiple choice questions with few simulation questions and drag and drops. You can take a look at Cisco's CCNA exam webpage. It has details about exam questions and exam description. The exam time is 90 minutes and in the middle east is expanded to 2 hours because its in a second language.The exam doesn't have review ability, i.e., it has only "NEXT" button and no "PREVIOUS" button on the page. So, you will not be able to take a second look into the question you answer. And in my opinion, that's a good thing, so your mind would not be occupied with previous questions. The exams usually have two or three simulation questions. These questions are the ones that take time. Not because they are hard or long or any of that, its because you are afraid of it. Especially if this is your first time in such a computer-based exam. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT spend more than 15-20 minutes on the simulation questions. It would make you loose many other questions. The most important thing about the exam is timing. The questions are never too hard.The passing score, as you might know, is 849 out of 1000. The zero point of the exam is 300. And not all questions in the exam are marked as Cisco says in its copyright notice before the exam.Keep in mind that CCNA is not the farthest that you can go. CCNA is the stepping stone to a much wider world where you can select a road in. It has two books by Stephen McQuerry; INTRO (for the basics of networking) and ICND (Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices). These two books cover the CCNA materials well. It's like a collection of the useful things from the CCNA academy materials.If you are looking for a more brief coverage of the CCNA materials, you can use the Todd Lammle's book in its 5th edition printed by Sybex. But the problem with this book is that it doesn't cover the whole story. It lacks the two very important subjects of NAT and DHCP, which are practically very important. And I have put together some simple documents about NAT and DHCP that can help students depending on Lammle's book. You can find them here and here.And for practical training, if you cannot borrow an old router, you can use a simulator. Many type of simulator are out there in the market and lots of them are useless. Few of the good ones that I recommend are either Boson's or the one that is sold by Cisco Press. And to be honest, the best simulator that I have seen until now is called PacketTracer. This is the router used by Cisco Academies for thier student. The exam consists of 55 to 65 questions. Most of them are multiple choice questions with few simulation questions and drag and drops. You can take a look at Cisco's CCNA exam webpage. It has details about exam questions and exam description. The exam time is 90 minutes and in the middle east is expanded to 2 hours because its in a second language.The exam doesn't have review ability, i.e., it has only "NEXT" button and no "PREVIOUS" button on the page. So, you will not be able to take a second look into the question you answer. And in my opinion, that's a good thing, so your mind would not be occupied with previous questions. The exams usually have two or three simulation questions. These questions are the ones that take time. Not because they are hard or long or any of that, its because you are afraid of it. Especially if this is your first time in such a computer-based exam. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT spend more than 15-20 minutes on the simulation questions. It would make you loose many other questions. The most important thing about the exam is timing. The questions are never too hard.The passing score, as you might know, is 849 out of 1000. The zero point of the exam is 300. And not all questions in the exam are marked as Cisco says in its copyright notice before the exam.Keep in mind that CCNA is not the farthest that you can go. CCNA is the stepping stone to a much wider world where you can select a road in. Absolute, or divorce a vinculo matu monii, is the judicial termination of a marriage based on marital misconduct or other statutory causes after the wedding ceremonysuch as adultery. Limited, or divorce a mensa et thoro is a separation decree, where the marriage is not fully terminated, and the couple still retain their civil status as married. <p><p>There are seven steps in having a divorce. While the process varies from couple to couple, depending on the situation of both parties, there are some essential procedures in filing for a divorce. One thing is certain, however: divorcing couples who are mature enough to agree on certain issues makes for a smoother divorce. <p><p>First, one party must file a petition for divorce. Even if both parties agree on a divorce, one must file the petition, which states the ground for divorce. There is such a thing as no fault grounds, which simply states that the relationship is no longer viable (such as irreconcilable differences). While many states allow this, some states still consider ground faults, such as adultery. <p><p>A temporary order is the next step. This is for claiming temporary financial support, child support, of custody. This is granted a few days after filing, and remains in effect until a formal court hearing. One should file for this ASAP. <p><p>A service of process is then required. This is to prove that the petition has reached the other party as well. A response is then needed from the other party. He or she must file a response to the petition, and is allowed to either dispute the grounds or defend himself or herself from them. Disagreements on custody or property division should also be filed with the response. <p><p>A negotiation for the division of property and custody comes next. The court usually lets the couple and their respective lawyers handle this, but if they cannot agree on anything, the court has to decide for them. Children are usually the responsibility of social workers, whom the court calls in to check on the living conditions of each spouse if it is fit for the children. A trial then ensues, to smooth out issues the couple couldnt resolve by themselves. <p><p>Finally, an order of resolution is given, which ends the marriage and contains the division of property and debts. If the couple has negotiated these issues themselves, they can write their own order of resolution and submit it to court. Common Overlooked Reasons Why You Should Start Backing Up Your Files Now

One major source of procrastination in the area of backing up personal or business data stems from creating a complex mental picture in one's mind of what you think you have to do: Buy a stack of rewriteable CD'S, label them, buy the best Backup Software, run through an inventory of your complete hard drive, in order to determine what to back up.Just take some kind of action - doing this is so much more important than trying to be Captain Organized. Write down 5 things you do with your PC that results in crucial files you would never want to lose. This is your first micro-step. You're now done with the first portion of this task and you can reward yourself.The next step is to find some empty space on a second hard drive (this is definitely preferred to having a diskette, and second hard drives are cheap). Create a folder on this physically separate hard drive and name this folder: "Email Backup". (this is one of the five things above that you discovered you wouldn't want to lose)You now have a dedicated place to back up your email files (in the case of Outlook, for instance, this would be *.PST). Now Google for "XCOPY" and Batch File, and use that information to write yourself a simple *.bat file that copies your email files to that folder at least weekly. Your reward at this point can be more extravagant.
You're basically done with a minimalist backup solution for now - you can then add additional Xcopy commands for other very important key files. Don't go drawing the conclusion that the perfect and responsible backup system has to necessarily involve a complete backing up of all software on a hard drive. The files that you create, with your mind and your time, are the crucial types of information you want to back up, and back up now. Not ZIP files of old teleseminar MP3 files you've already listened to.
Your List of Important Files May Include The Following

Review Web Host - To Prevent Web Host Shut Down

This article is based on a true experience that took place with
my web host. I am not here to blame or try to give my web host a
bad name, I am here to review web host, that makes sense to you
when it comes to choosing a web host provider that is right for
your business.
All web host are created equal in my eyes, that is, or that used
to be, until I got shut down without warning. It was very hard
for me to understand how I could start a new website from
scratch and eat up 40 Gigs of bandwidth in that short apan of
time (3 months, and I was shut down).
You should review web host, before you make a choice. The
problem online today is how can you make a sound web host review
with all the thousands out there.
It is impossible to review the thousands of web host out there,
but it is in your best interest if you just review web host that
are in high demand. Many of the top marketers have their own
server, and you can't afford to pay $200 or more monthly for
your own server.
For you to prvent web host shut down, you will have to learn how
to use the forums to find recommendation for choosing your web
hosting provider. I didn't do my own research and that is why
why web host shut me down without notice.
After being shut down, I went to two of my favorite forums and
read a couple of post regarding my hosting company, and realized
that no one had any great experiences with said company. They
gave poor web host review grades for that host, well life is a
learning process, and I know what not to do when choosing a web
hosting povider.
Here are my four tips you should follow to review any web host:
1) Don't ever go for unlimited domain names. One other point
worth mentioning, don't ever go for unlimited domain names,
whenever you create a new account they automatically divide up
your hosting bandwith. That menas that if you have just 40 Gig
of bandwith and you divide it up by four domain names, you have
allready used up all your bandwith.
So, any other new domain name you add will make you exceed your
bandwidth, please understand I am just showing you the rip offs
that takes place with some low cost web hosting providers. They
say that they will warn you when your exceeding your bandwidth,
but they just never do. They make you pay extra for unlimited
domain names, but you being new to the Internet, you won't ever
need more than three to six domain names to get you started.
2) Don't go with any hosting company that requires the full
amount up front. They offer low cost web hosting if you pay the
yearly price up front. Well, once you have paid for the year,
you are tied to this comapny, should their service be not
worthy, you will loose your initial yearly payment. Go with a
company that has a 3 month or monthly payment plan, with a money
back guarantee.
3) Test by sending a simple email to your web host first. Just
send off a simple email telling your webhost that your
interested in their hosting, this is a must for you to review
web host that are unknown. The response time to your email will
let you know what type of service they offer.
4) Ask for a charge back As you know, the client is supposed to
be king, keep all your receipts in place, and should you ever be
shut down by your web host after paying a yearly plan, just go
to your credit card provider and file a complaint for a refund.
Don't let anyone scam you out of your money.
The final conclusion, your the one to blame if you get scammed,
so make sure you follow my review web host tips before handing
out your credit card.
