Tips for Driving Cross Country

Author : Justin Howley
Driving cross country, it's considered the ultimate road trip. Having the independence of seeing the Country in a way that is not possible by taking a plane is a very satisfying and liberating experience. The drive can also be a tough one. For those who haven't driven for long periods of time, the trip can be grueling unless you're mentally and physically prepared. I have made the trip four times, each time getting easier gaining experience of the do's and don'ts related to the drive. Your trip needs to be well planned out starting with what time of the year you want to travel to how much weight is in the car. These factors will seriously affect your trip and can determine how long it will take you to get to your destination. In my experience, spring and fall are best for traveling. Your car will perform better in milder weather; you'll burn less oil and get better gas mileage not running your air conditioner if traveling in the summer heat which is extremely hard on your car, and you'll also avoid ice and snow if traveling in the winter. Roads are a lot rougher in the winter since icy roads and snow take their toll creating potholes and other road hazards.Milder weather will also make your trip easier if you happen to blow out a tire or run into some car trouble. Sitting in a car that does not start in the heat of the summer or cold of winter is not fun. If you happen to breakdown, you can still enjoy being outdoors while waiting for assistance.Checking your tires for correct pressure and foreign objects like nails or worn treads is a necessity before starting your journey. If you see anything out of the ordinary on your tires, have them checked or replaced by a mechanic before the trip. And of course, you absolutely must check your spare. Your spare will be a life saver if you blow a tire in the middle of nowhere. Next, an oil change. During the course of the 3000 plus miles you'll be driving, you'll have used up the recommended duration of a normal oil change interval in a matter of a few days. A few extra quarts of oil is a good idea if your car is burning more than normal amount of oil. In the same category as oil, the other vital fluids in your car should be checked; radiator, brake, power steering and even windshield wiper fluid must be checked and filled if low.Now that your car is in shape to make the journey, you need to pack for the trip. Depending on who is traveling with you, there are a few options to consider. Comfortable clothes like sweats are ideal since you'll be sitting for long periods of time. Having a light weatherproof jacket is also needed. Flashlight, batteries, a gallon of water are a must have. Getting a gas card is something to look into, having a separate card that is not in your wallet but in your glove compartment is a smart idea just in case you happen to loose your wallet, you can still buy gas and get to your destination. For more information about driving tips, visit the Ultimate Auto Network www.ultimateautonetwork.com

Tips on How to Save Money by Greener Driving

Author : Paul Clarke
Here are some simple tips on how to enjoy maximum fuel economy.WeightNo matter what the weight of their car, some people just make their cars even heavier by
carrying lots of unnecessary things – thereby needing more energy to make the car move. This
also includes carting around heavy people – if they're just being a dead weight and making you
use more fuel – get them to walk instead! Remember that if carrying extra weight, your tyre
pressures should be higher – see your car's manual.AerodynamicsAnything that interrupts the smooth flow of air past your car needs to be addressed. The
obvious culprit here is roof racks/luggage carriers/roof boxes. You may think that carrying skis
around on your roof all year round makes you look cool and trendy but it's just burning a hole
in your wallet and the ozone layer – take roof racks off if not in use. Windows are also bad! –
open windows drastically reduce your fuel efficiency – so keep them closed unless you've got a
very good reason to keep them open.If you really must tow a caravan or high trailer, then apart from annoying every motorist behind
you, you're fighting the first two principles of fuel efficiency – low weight and good
aerodynamics – so consider fitting an aerofoil to the roof of your vehicle to minimise wind
resistance. Finally, body kits or extras that are added to the outside of a vehicle will also affect the
aerodynamics of the car and contribute to extra weight. But more importantly body kits look
rubbish so just avoid them completely.Sapping powerAs you can't open your windows, so you'll be tempted to use the air conditioning to cool down
– well think again. Air conditioning can increase fuel consumption by 10%, however the impact
will be less if travelling at a constant speed on the motorway. So keep those fresh air vents
open and wear minimal clothing when driving in summer! All accessories can drain energy and
use more fuel, even the rear screen demister or the radio. If you want to be really super-keen,
then in winter see if you've got the will power to avoid turning on the engine and using the
windscreen demister, and scrape off the ice or use a de-icer. An easier option may be to buy an
insulating cover for the windscreen or keep the car undercover in the winter.SpeedNo surprises that there's a direct link between burying your right foot on the accelerator and
the amount of fuel burnt! Aim to perfect the art of gentle pressure on the accelerator and keep
speeds down to achieve max mpg. Doing this could easily save hundreds of pounds per year.
The faster you go over 70mph, the more the fuel burns away...Drive smoothlyAccelerating harshly then braking like a mad person is a sure way to devour the contents of
your fuel tank, as well as ensuring you've got no brake disks or tread left on your tyres - or any
passengers that want to travel with you. By thinking and planning ahead you can apply light
throttle and avoiding heavy braking, so reducing both fuel consumption and wear and tear. Try
to predict traffic at junctions and when in queues avoid accelerating and then braking harshly.
Driving techniques can affect car fuel efficiency by as much as 30 percent. Advanced driving
techniques will help with smooth driving and will make you a safer driver – see www.iam.org.ukGearsDriving in the highest gear possible without labouring the engine is a fuel-efficient way of
driving. A car travelling at 40mph in third gear can use 25 percent more fuel than at the same
speed in fifth gear. The fuel saving of coasting downhill in neutral or with the engine off will be
negligible, but as the car will be out of control this can result in instant death, therefore this is
not recommended.Stop and switch offIf you stop for more than a few minutes, switch off your engine – the ultimate in economy as
you're using no fuel at all! However switching off your engine for short periods of time can
increase fuel consumption, as it requires more fuel to get the engine started. Also your catalytic
converter may no longer be running at full temperature, so your car will be less efficient,
increasing the amount of pollution produced.Drive off promptlyAfter starting your car, rather than leaving your engine running, drive off as soon as possible to
prevent wasting fuel. And to save money on replacing a worn-out engine, drive gently until the
engine has reached its normal operating temperature.Paul Clarke is the founder of the Green-Car-Guide.com, a website designed to help UK motorists make an informed choice about environmentally-friendly cars, saving them money on fuel and car running costs. Some Of The Things You Need To Know About Buying Ford Steering and Suspension Parts

Author : Gregg Hall
A majority of vehicle consumers know next to nothing about the steering and suspension in the cars they drive. It isn't a surprise, though. Almost every vehicle consumer in the world today trusts the knowledge of their car and their car parts to the manufacturers, and the mechanics. For those of you who would like to know a little more about your vehicle, here is a starter course.A vehicle's suspension is the system of front and rear springs that suspend a car's weight. The suspension springs utilized in today's vehicles are created in a multitude of shapes, types, sizes, capacities, and rates. The types of suspension offered are: leaf springs, air springs, coil springs, and torsion bars. There are always four sets for every vehicle, and they can be paired off in many different combinations and attached at several different mounting points. The suspension system in a vehicle includes: shocks or struts, and sway bars. Historically, the car's weight was set on the rear axle, and steering was much simpler; having a turning tiller that pivoted the entire front of the car. When the engine block was finally installed in the front of the car, a more complex steering system was developed. Today's vehicle has made great strides toward being more than just a foot propelled box. There have been significant innovations in steering and suspension, increased durability and quality of parts, and advancements in tire design and composition that have made significant improvements in the way a vehicle drives and how safe the driver is.A vehicle's suspension system is comprised of 2 fundamental functions: keeping the vehicle's tires firmly planted on the road, and to offer a comfortable, bump-free ride for everyone inside. There is nothing worse than riding along a pothole filled road and feeling all the little holes, crevices, dips, and bumps. A majority of a vehicle's suspension system's work is done by the springs. Under normal road conditions, the springs would support the body of the vehicle, balancing it by compressing and rebounding with every little bump, jiggle, and dip in the road. Unfortunately, a suspension system alone cannot insure the driver has a smooth ride. Enter the shock absorbers. Shock absorbers do exactly what they sound like they do: they absorb the shock of the rebounding before it reaches the occupants of the vehicle. Purchasing Ford shock absorbers is something your bones will thank you for.The Ford Motor Company has top billing as one of the foremost auto manufacturers in the world. This didn't come easy. Auto Industry's 'Big 3' Loses Billions

Author : Tracy Dawson
The 'Big 3' of the auto industry is currently facing the crucial years of their existence. Hard days are triggered by the rising costs and their waning sales. Hence, these automakers are racing to rebuilt the ruins and reconstruct their flagging businesses. Consequently, analysts say that the emerging front-runner among the big three is General Motors.Earlier, GM reported lower quarterly earning loss of $115 million compared with $1.7 billion loss in the previous year. Analysts also noticed that GM is now reaping the fruits of its restructuring plan. According to Robert Toomey, chief equities strategist at E.K. Riley Advisors in Seattle, "So far GM is the only one that can be described as in turnaround mode."Ford is not on the road to recovery yet. Said automaker is just starting its 'Way Forward' plan so far; Ford has lost a remarkable sum worth $5.8 billion. Chrysler, on one hand, reported $1.5 billion operating loss."If the Big Three were running a 26-mile marathon, GM would be near Mile 20, said Rebecca Lindland, an auto analyst at Global Insight. "Right now, GM is really gaining ground, while the other two are falling behind. GM has been exercising a tremendous amount of financial discipline and so is in good shape for 2007. That doesn't mean they will start showing profitability right away, but they are doing great when you compare them with a company like Ford, which in this race is only just leaving the starting line."Among the three automakers, Ford's loss is the biggest for more than 14 years now. Lindland pointed out her grave concerns about Ford which include its ability to generate revenue. This is because some of the car maker's vehicles are not selling well. These vehicles include Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, and Lincoln MKZ. Ford auto parts as well as that of Milan and MKZ need a timely boost to compete well in the market.Ford F150 pickup parts, which make-up the best-selling vehicle of the automaker, are facing serious competition. Moreover, Fort has to take extra effort to defend its standing in the pickup truck segment since it is the bread-and-butter of the company.Tracy is a 29 year old researcher and writer from Dallas, Texas with extensive experience in writing auto-related articles and covering automotive related events. Choosing the Right Sticker for the Motorcycle Helmet

Author : Low Jeremy
When people decide to buy a motorcycle, the dealer will usually throw in a helmet. This is because state regulations require bike owners to have this on as a safety device. Before leaving the place, the individual should check if this will snugly onto one's head.If this can easily be taken on and off, then the person can already drive away. Most motorcycle helmets come in just one color. This is usually in yellow, red, white and orange. Should the individual want to add style to it; there are places that offer stickers that will look good on the helmet. The decal store is not that hard to find. This is because the people who run these places also make stickers for cars, boats and trucks. The person can drive around town to find it, check the local directory or surf for these in the Internet. There are hundreds of sticker designs to choose from. The individual will notice that these are available in different shapes and sizes which also means that the price of these vary from $.99 cents to $4.00.People who want this to look cool and flashy should get those that are reflectorized so that motorists can see the biker on the road. This safety feature will prevent drivers from bumping into the biker from the back causing injury or death. Many people want to add stickers that have lines going from the front of the helmet until the back. Others want a big cartoon caricature on the sides or on the rear.If the design the customer wants is not available, the dealer can probably make a customized version according to the specifications given by the client. Before selecting the sticker, it will be a good idea to imagine how the bike owner will look with it in front of a mirror. If this will make the individual look like a clown, it is advisable to choose something else. The only safety feature that a motorcycle has against collisions is the helmet. This is because this two-wheeled machine doesn't have the space for a seat belt or air bags that are commonly found in automobiles. So if the person wants to look cool and be safe on the road, it will be a good idea to have stickers on it. This will probably make the individual stand out in a crowd of bikers who might mistakenly get someone else's head gear when it is time to go home. This content is provided by Low Jeremy and may be used only in its entirety with all links included. Motorcycle Engine Variety

Author : Joe Bella
Motorcycle engine design and innovation has long surpassed that of the automotive industry, and industry observers agree that the big companies like Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki can muster considerable R&D prowess here, which can then be applied to their automobile engines.Competitors are especially aware of this. Says former Oldsmobile chief engineer Ted Louckes: "That's where the leading edge of piston engine technology is today. It's not in automobiles; it's not in aircraft. It's in motorcycles."The Goal: Better CombustionWhen considering the advantages of a combustion chamber crammed with more than four valves-per-cylinder, the first inclination is to think, aha! Flow area! Five valves equals more flow area! True, to a degree, but that's only part of the Yamaha's design strength. In the reigning days of the two-valvers, engine designers would control pinging by incorporating squish bands into the combustion chambers. By the 1960s, the four-valve heads of Cosworth and Honda racing engines were allowing narrow included valve angles and thus shallow combustion chambers. Put the spark plug in the center, and voila!, good combustion.Yamaha looked beyond four valves to unlock even better combustion. In the early '80s (Yamaha had only been a serious producer of four-stroke engines for about ten years!) it experimented with a variety of head and valve configurations, even trying a seven-valve-per-cylinder (four intakes, three exhaust) design. Finally, five valves per jug was found to be the right combination. This design gives the engine extra intake valve perimeter, which allows it to flow more air at low-to-medium valve lifts -- exactly where valves in most production automotive engines spend most of their operating time.Honda of America Mfg., Inc., has combined plant and production engineering with advanced manufacturing techniques to become one of the leading engine producers in North America. The million-square-foot plant manufactures 500,000 high technology engines and drive trains a year. Kinzer noted that the plant produces everything that makes a car "go and stop." He said that even Japan has no Honda facility comparable to the Anna plant. Its production, he reported, equals the total of seven similar Honda manufacturing units in Japan. At present production levels, a Civic or Accord engine is produced at the Anna plant every 27 seconds.Honda's iron foundry operates three shifts per day. The ferrous casting and machining operations include the production of engine cylinder sleeves and brake discs and drums. Aluminum casting operations include high pressure casting of engine blocks and transmission and torque converter cases, low pressure casting of engine cylinder heads and gravity casting of pistons.Joe loves his motorcycle but he knows how to drive it safely. Get a Great Car Cheap

Author : Perry Gibson
Not every person who drives a luxury car is wealthy. The guy next door who drives a BMW or Mercedes may have received the car as a gift, inherited it, or won it in a bet or a raffle. If you don't have any rich relatives likely to give or leave you a Jaguar, or if you don't fancy your luck in games of chance, there's one more option for you. Get a government-seized car on auction, and you'll be able to drive the car of your dreams without paying an arm and a leg for it.What is a government-seized automobile? When criminals are caught, the government seizes their property, including their automobiles. The government then auctions these automobiles off. As you might imagine, a lot of criminals drive expensive or highly customized vehicles, and these are the kinds of vehicles that end up in government-seized automobile auctions. How do I find a government-seized auto auction? These auctions are held at frequent intervals in different parts of the country. There is likely to be one near you, but if you're willing to travel, that expands your range of options considerably. You can look for auction listings in newspapers or online. If you decide to look online, you can either do your own search or use an online auction directory service (for a small one-time fee). When you've found an auction you want to participate in, get in touch with the auction administrators and ask about registration requirements. In most cases, registration is free, and a photo ID is all that's required. How do I pay for my purchases at these auctions? Most auctions accept cash, cashier's check, and credit card (Visa or MasterCard). Payment terms differ from auction to auction. Some auctions will require a deposit on the day of the auction and the balance the following day. Other auctions require immediate full payment for all purchases. Auctions that allow deposits on the day of the auction might require immediate full payment for purchases worth less than a certain amount, say, $5,000. Before you go to the auction site, find out what modes of payment the auction allows. Are these auctions for real? It's possible to get good deals at these auctions, but you will have to do your homework. Don't go in there before you've armed yourself with information about the kind of car you want and the kind of prices such a car would fetch on the market. The best deals at government-seized auto auctions are usually on older, well-maintained vehicles. There are several downsides to acquiring vehicles at government-seized auto auctions. First, the selection changes all the time. You can't specify the kind of vehicle you want. You have to settle for what's available. And because of the constant changes in selection, you can't expect detailed information on descriptions and prices. What information you do get is not necessarily reliable. It would be best to check out the vehicle yourself. If the auction is far from your place of residence, you will have to travel to the auction site at least a few days before the day of the auction to inspect the goods.Second, you won't be able to test-drive the vehicles. You'll be able to look the vehicle over and ask questions, though. Vehicles aren't available for inspection on the day of the auction, but there are auction previews, usually a day or two in advance. This is another reason to travel to the auction site at least a few days beforehand.Third, these auctions don't offer warranties. So be sure to get as much information as you can about the car you want. Ask the auction administrators for the car's Vehicle Information Number (VIN) and use it to get a CarFax report on the car. The CarFax report will give you valuable information, including odometer readings and history of flood damage or accidents. Finally, bidding can get extremely competitive, especially if the car you have your eye on is new, popular, or well-maintained. You may find yourself bidding against used-car dealers, many of whom search these auctions for bargains that they can resell in turn. Furious bidding can push auction prices up, sometimes close to or even exceeding the actual value of the automobile. When this happens, there's little point in acquiring the automobile at an auction. You might as well buy it somewhere else.Perry Gibson is a long time auto auction attendee and also, co

Are All Over Passes in Quebec Unsafe?

Author : Lance Winslow
Are the roads safe in Québec Canada? Why do I ask? Will simply because recently an overpass collapsed in Laval, Québec, Canada and 19 unsuspecting motorist drove off the edge and five people were killed and many hospitalized. The Laval overpass fell onto Highway 19 and cars just kept falling off and other cars hit the debris. When road workers came to the scene they tried to stop the cars and seal off the road, but even more cars kept coming. One gentleman crossed the road and noticed it sank about 2 inches and he called authorities on his cell phone only minutes before the whole bridge went down at about 1 p.m. in the middle of the day. This is not the first time in her bridges gone down Canada. Another bridge collapsed in 2000 on Laval Island. Why do these bridges keep collapsing in Canada? My guess is that it is because of the political correctness they use when awarding contracts to road construction companies. Rather than giving the company with the best credentials the job, they often allow minorities to get a discount in the bid or make special considerations for underprivileged businesses.Contracts from the government should always be given to the very best contractor and not necessarily the one that is the most politically correct. But heck what you expect in Canada? It is too bad that political correctness is killing so many motorists these days in Canada."Lance Winslow" - Online Think Tank forum board. Slightly Lower Fuel Prices Could Give GM a Major Break

Author : Lance Winslow
Can the lower oil prices help General Motors pull off a rebound in sales in the forth quarter? Many automaker analysts think so and most GM auto dealers certainly hope so too. Lower crude prices mean lower gasoline and diesel prices and for GM that means more truck sales and SUVs, which are their highest profit selling models. In fact the pull back in gasoline prices and the Slightly lower Fuel Prices could give GM a Major Break, one that shareholders would gladly take right about now.Apparently, rumor has it that sales are slightly up since the recent lowering of the gasoline prices in Late September of 2006, but no one is certain how long that will hold for. Dealers are saying that they are selling more SUV and Truck models than in August and early September and if it keeps up this could round out an okay year in US Automaker sales? Some people still want smaller cars and hybrids but there are not enough available yet and that should continue well into 2007. Even Toyota and Honda cannot produce enough of the hybrid hot sellers. There is still a huge 2006 inventory to get rid of some of large US Automaker auto models still, but these lower prices are helping and the longer the prices stay low the better for the Big Three indeed. Consider all this in 2006."Lance Winslow" - Online Think Tank forum board. If you have innovative thoughts and unique perspectives, come think with Lance; http://www.WorldThinkTank.net/wttbbs/

How To Buy New Car

Author : Pauline Go
If you are planning to buy a new car, there are two best times to buy it. You should buy it between July to October, or you should buy it at the end of December. New car dealers usually clear space for new car models during July to October. The factory to dealer incentives can be one thousand to six thousand dollars. At the end of December, people spend their money on gifts. Car dealers usually do not have a lot of customers. So they usually try to make break year end sales. You should learn about your credit score before deciding to buy a new car. Your credit score directly control your high an interest rate. You don't want your car dealer know more about your car credit than you do.If you have bad credit score, you don't want to submit applications everywhere. You want to submit an application to a bad credit auto loan resource. You want to find someone that specializes in high risk car loans. Even if you have bankruptcy, it is still possible to get a car loan. If your credit score is higher than 525, you have a fighting chance. It is also important that you have job for at least 6 months, and you have no bad credit in the last 6 months. If you have bad credit, you probably have to pay high APR in the beginning. However, if you make payment on time, you may be able to auto refinance to a lower APR.Check Out More Articles:U Fix It Honda,

Which is Better - Aluminum or Steel Horse Trailers?

Author : Neva Scheve
Are you in the market for a new horse trailer? If so, would you know a quality horse trailer from an inferior one? Would you know what materials are preferable for strength, durability, and safety? Which would you choose...aluminum or steel? In today's market, consumers have become curious about the products they buy. With so much information readily available via the Internet, books, publications, and so forth, people are more likely to research an item (especially a more expensive item, such as a horse trailer) prior to purchasing it.Through research, horse owners can become more knowledgeable about the products they wish to buy. They can learn about advancements and new technologies used in creating today's horse trailers. And, before investing in a new trailer, the individual may be better informed on how manufacturers can use today's new materials to build better horse trailers.Should You Choose Today's Steel Over Aluminum? Once upon a time, steel rusted! Rusted steel became weak and fragile. Aluminum didn't rust. Therefore, aluminum was predominantly the material chosen for use in building horse trailers.Over the years, however, consumers have become aware of the inherent problems found in trailers made of all aluminum. Some of the problems that have occurred with aluminum trailers include broken welds, corroded floors, and the shearing/tearing problems that can happen in minor accidents, especially on the lesser quality trailers. With problems such as these added to the high cost of aluminum today, it's needless to say that the aluminum trailer industry is suffering a bit. Some manufacturers continue to build their horse trailers with all-aluminum frames, roofs, walls, and interior dividers. Among those manufacturers are Sooner, Featherlite, Four Star, and Exxiss. Other manufacturers, such as Trail-et, Hawk, EquiSpirit, and Bee, however, use mostly steel and/or a combination of both steel and aluminum. Why do some manufacturers stick with all aluminum, when others have moved on to newer and better materials? Perhaps the answer lies in the history and development of the trailer industry, itself...rather than in the quality and benefits of one material over another. From Steel to AluminumSeveral decades ago, horse trailers were made of steel that would rust. Because the steel would rust, the trailers would quickly deteriorate and become unsightly and unsafe for hauling horses.By the late seventies and early eighties, several horse trailer manufacturers, such as Sooner, Featherlite, and Four Star, began building horse trailers made from aluminum to replace the old, rust-deteriorating steel trailers. After all, everyone knew that aluminum didn't rust! Soon, horse owners were convinced that the new, all-aluminum trailers were the way to go.In years to come, it would become apparent that using all aluminum in horse trailers had some negative consequences. But, back in the late seventies and early eighties, those consequences had not yet become known. The high cost of aluminum seemed to be the only negative aspect to building all-aluminum trailers. However, consumers were willing to pay the extra cost to avoid buying a trailer that could potentially deteriorate from rust.Eventually, the "all-aluminum" trailers hit the market full-force and became THE trailers to own...in spite of the higher cost! Besides, if something cost more, it must be a superior product. Right?Sooner, Featherlite, and Four Star horse trailers were consequently perceived as being top of the line. Consumers failed to realize that the higher trailer prices charged by these manufacturers were merely the result of the higher cost of aluminum versus steel. This consumer perception led other manufacturers, such as Sundowner, Cherokee, and Bison to switch to aluminum. The aluminum trend also caught on with later manufacturing companies, such as Exiss and Eby, who wanted to reap the benefits of the industry.Aluminum Isn't So Perfect, After All!The quality of all-aluminum trailers is going to vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. This is to be expected, since not all manufacturers construct their horse trailers in the exact same manner. But the biggest problem with all-aluminum trailers has to do with the aluminum, itself! One pound of steel is three times as strong as one pound of aluminum. In other words, it takes more aluminum to equal the strength of steel. When aluminum is used in the frame, this fact has to be taken into consideration. Manufacturers have to increase the amount of aluminum used in the floor and frame to make these as strong as a floor and frame made of steel. Because of this, some of your better aluminum trailers, such as 4 Star, will often weigh as much as a steel-built trailer. Sometimes, the aluminum trailer will even be heavier than one made of steel.Often, the interior dividers in aluminum horse trailers are not "beefed up," making the dividers about 1/3 the strength of a steel divider that is equal in size. As a result, the weaker aluminum divider is doomed to fail more quickly. Unfortunately, when aluminum fails, it shears and tears and becomes a danger to horses. The torn edges can potentially result in minor to major lacerations from a relatively minor mishap. Not only is aluminum somewhat weak in nature, it is also difficult to repair. Unlike steel, aluminum does not weld easily, and original welds can never be re-welded to their original strength. Add to these issues the fact that aluminum is a good conductor of heat. This is a great fact, if you're making aluminum cookware! However, this is not so great when it comes to keeping your horses cool on a hot day!Having realized throughout the years the inherent problems with all-aluminum trailers, the major "all-aluminum" manufacturers, such as Featherlite, Sooner, Sundowner, Exiss, and Eby, have vastly improved their manufacturing processes, and thus, their trailers. Consumers have also become aware of the problems associated with all-aluminum trailers. Owners of aluminum trailers have experienced these problems first-hand. They've seen aluminum floors deteriorate from lack of cleaning. They have seen broken welds and tears in the aluminum. They have fought to keep their horses comfortable when the temperatures outside were soaring! Will Consumer Demands Lead to Safer Horse Trailers?Safety has become a major goal in the automobile industry. Consumer demands and government regulations have resulted in higher safety features in today's cars and trucks. As a result, the steel industry was greatly influenced, and necessity required that something be done about the rust problem. This led to the development of galvaneeled steel, galvanized steel, and powder coated steel...materials which are tough, easy to use and repair, and relatively inexpensive. Many consumers who are horse owners are beginning to realize that, if their tow vehicles are required to meet certain safety regulations, then their horse trailers should also be required to meet certain safety regulations for the protection of their horses.Unfortunately, in spite of the development of newer steel materials, which can provide safer horse trailers, aluminum trailers are still being built. One reason may be that companies such as Featherlite, Sooner, Exiss, and Four Star, have become so large that they would suffer economic hardship, if they switched at this point in time. Another reason may be that many customers continue to believe that all-aluminum horse trailers are better. So, there continues to be a market for all-aluminum trailers; and, as long as there is a market for them, manufacturers will build them.Neva Scheve is the author of The Complete Guide to Buying, Maintaining, and Servicing a Horse Trailer. Why Won't My Car Start?

Author : Randy Harkins
Have you ever had your car just "die" on you, you try to start it and it just   will not start.  You end up calling a tow truck and paying those big tow bills, then to make matters worse the technician at the shop tells you that it will cost hundreds of dollars to make it run again,is that true? Maybe maybe not.

I own and work as a diagnostics Tech here at Ace Automotive in Lakewood Wa and I can tell you from experience if some people knew just a little more about their cars workings they could save a whole lotta money.  Say for instance you are driving at night wipers and heater ,lights and radio on you notice that the headlights keep getting dimmer and dimmer soon the vehicle "dies" and now won't start the most likely cause is the alternator has failed, not the battery because if the battery failed the alternator would still keep power to the vehicle until you turned it off then it would not restart.

You are driving for a while and the car just "shuts off" all the instrument lights come on but when you try to start it it just turns over but will not start. First it depends what kind of car this happend to if it was an import like say Honda, acura, toyota, subaru, nissan, mitubishi, the engine timing belt may have broken (if it's been more that 60,000 miles since you changed it last time) you should be able to tell if when you try to start the engine it sounds different like its just "freewheeling" faster than normal, this is bad cause most of the import cars mentioned will do expensive damage to the engine when the timing belt breaks.

If your vehicle is a domestic one chevy ford ect, be patient wait a little bit maybe 30-45 min and try to start it if it starts hurray! But it will "die" again once it's hot enough again, be sure to tell your local tech this valuable information and ask for all parts they replace to repair your vehicle to let them know you know something about the car too.Randy Harkins Owner / Technician Ace Automotive

Honda Civic Hybrid 2004: The Weekly Driver Review

Author : James Raia
The first time I came to a stoplight, the car was so quiet I thought the
engine had stalled. I tried to restart the car, but the engine was already
on, and I advanced when the light changed in my favor. But the same thing happened at the next spotlight and again at the third
red light I reached.It wasn't like I was driving a "high-tech" vehicle and didn't know how
properly operate it. Rather, it was "only" a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid --
the first hybrid I've had as a weekly test drive. But finally I got it. The "little" Honda Civic hybrid is more technically
advanced than I imagined. In fact, the engine "idle stops." It's the new
system for the 2004 model that shuts off three of the Civic's four
cylinders as the car is decelerating or coasting. It's part of the vehicle's multi-dimensional appeal. As a hybrid, it utilizes
gasoline-electric technology. The vehicle's electric motor assists a 1.3-
liter gasoline engine. The batteries recharge when the vehicle is
coasting or slowing down. While at a stop sign or stoplight, engine and electric monitor bars on the
instrument panel tell the driver the vehicle is switching from one engine
option to the other. If the air conditioner is running, however, the vehicle
will not transfer automatically to the electric motor at stops. The hybrid also features a continuously variable transmission (CVT),
which means it provides a near-endless number of gear ratios. As such,
its fuel rating of 47 mph in the city and 48 mph on the highway is
impressive. The Civic hybrid is also impressive in many other ways. My naive
thinking was that because is was a hybrid, it would accelerate
inadequately and that other areas of vehicle would have been
neglected. On the contrary, the hybrid's standard features include air conditioning,
power windows, mirrors and locks, AM/FM/CD system, cruise control
and floor mats. Antilock brakes, front and side airbags, emergency trunk
opener and remote keyless entry are among standard safety features. And while it certainly couldn't be considered swift, the Civic hybrid
accelerates satisfactorily, particularly considering it has 93 horsepower
and an eight-valve, four-cylinder engine. My test vehicle had a magnesium metallic exterior and nicely
complemented gray interior and for 2004, the vehicle has a redesigned,
nicely coutoured body style. The instrumentation, armrest and beverage holder are also nicely
situated, and the various dials are easy to read and nicely illuminated in
night driving. The interior room is adequate, but since the hybrid needs
room for its battery packs, the trunk space is reduced by nearly three
cubic feet and the 60-40 back seat split available on other Civic models
is eliminated.Similar to my initial reaction, several friends remarked how quiet the
hybrid Civic operates and how efficiently and seemingly effortlessly its
gasoline-electric systems operates.I also mentioned to one friend that the hybrid Civic only has only an
11.88 gallon fuel tank. We both nearly simultaneously remarked, "At
nearly 50 mph, that's nearly the length of California on one tank of gas."Which, of course, is exactly the point.2004 Honda Civic 4DR HybridSafety features -- Driver's and passenger's front and side airbags, ABS
brakes, emergency trunk opener, front and rear crumple zones.Fuel Mileage (estimates) -- 47 mpg (city), 48 mpg (highway).Warranty -- Bumper to bumper, 3 years/36,000 miles; corrosion, 5 years,
unlimited mileage.Base price -- $20,550.James Raia is a syndicated journalist in Sacramento, Calif., who writes

Drag Racing - Take It Off The Street And To The Strip!

Author : Brooks Weisblat
Drag racing, a contest between two cars starting from dead stop to determine which car can accelerate quicker to a given point. Drag racing started in the 1930's where competitors raced along desert stretches of road to see who's hot rod was faster. Over the coming years the sport became more organized and the National Hot Rod Association was formed in 1951. 54 years later, the NHRA is now the largest sanctioning body in motorsports with over 80,000 members. Most people probably got their start with drag racing on the streets, sitting at a light
when your neighbor or friend pulls up, both of you itching for the light to finally
turn green so you both can hammer the throttle and see who could get to the next
light first. There's no doubt that it's exciting, anticipating the green light, just
waiting for the right moment to send the tires screeching for traction to get the
edge on the car just a few feet to your side. With improvements in automotive technology and manufacturing, faster and more
powerful cars are being released each year. Cars on the low end include the
$20,000 Dodge Neon SRT-4, with a 230 horsepower turbocharged engine that can
do 0-60 MPH in 5.5 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 13.9 seconds. High-end cars such
as the $189,000 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG, with it's 604 horsepower twin-
turbocharged V12 engine can do 0-60 in less than 4 seconds and the 1/4 mile in
11.6 seconds. These cars are made to be fun and exciting, but it's important to
exercise restrain on the city streets with them. Most people who purchase a high performance vehicle want to take it out and see
what it can do, especially against other cars. While it's tempting to do this on the
city streets, it's also very dangerous. Not only are there severe penalties for drag
racing on public roads, it also endangers many others on the street. Many lives
have been lost due to drag racing contests on city streets. There are hundreds of places to test our your car's performance in a safe and
regulated environment, your local Drag Strip. Drag racing facilities are specially
equipped for testing how quick you can get your car from 0 to 1320 feet, more
commonly known as the 1/4 mile. Most tracks operate in a similar fashion and have
special nights set aside for normal street cars to "test and tune" or drag race the 1/4
mile for a nominal fee of $10 - $20. The track will have paramedics and other
safety personal ready to respond to any accidents should they occur. Each car that will be racing is given a tech inspection to make certain that is safe to
compete in the 1/4 mile contest. After the car has passed inspection, it's time to
line up and get ready to race. Two cars are signaled by track personnel to pull up to
the staging area, a portion of the track used to line up the two cars evenly at the
starting line. The Christmas Tree is a setup of lights used to line up both cars and
signal the start of the race.At the top of the Christmas Tree are the Pre-Stage bulbs, as the drivers pull slowly
forward to the starting line, they will activate the Pre-Stage bulbs. These bulbs
indicate the cars are very close to the starting line. As the drivers continue to move
slowly forward, the 2nd set of bulbs, the Stage bulbs will illuminate. When both
Pre-Stage and Stage bulbs for both cars are illuminated, the cars are lined up and
ready to go. At this point the track personal will activate the Christmas Tree to start
the race.Upon activation, the Christmas Tree will begin flashing a series of lights. Starting
from under the Stage bulbs, there are 3 amber lights, followed by a green light, and
then finally a red light. Each light is flashed a half-second apart ; amber – amber –
amber – green. Once the green lights are on, both cars should be rocketing down
the drag strip 1320 feet towards the finish line. If either car leaves the starting line
too quickly, the red light is flashed, and that car automatically loses the race. After passing through the finishing line there will be a long stretch of road to allow
the cars to slow down. There are usually a few exits from the track along the way
for the cars to turn around and head back to the timeslip booth to pickup a printed
ticket containing the details of their race. The timeslip will usually show how long
in seconds it took to get to various points down the track; 60', 330' , 1000', and
1320'. It will also data on how fast the car was traveling in MPH at the half-way
point (1/8 mile) and finish line (1/4 mile), and of course who won the race.Racing at the drag strip is a great way to safely and legally test out the capabilities
of your car while improving your driving skills at the same time. It's also a great
place to meet up with other people with similar interests. So the next time your
sitting at a stop light and the car next to you is instigating you into a drag race by
revving his engine, tell 'em to take it off the street and to the strip!Brooks Weisblat is drag racing/sports car enthusiast and owner of DragTimes.com,

Why Select 2-Strokes?

Author : Thomas Yoon
In our previous publication, we touched on the subject
of 2-stroke diesel engines. Today, we ask why we choose
to use 2-strokes?As you might remember, for a 2-stroke engine, the piston
has to move up, and then down to complete one cycle of
the engine. In those 2 strokes of the piston, the
crankshaft will have turned 1 revolution. In those 2
strokes of the piston the engine has also completed
4 stages of the combustion cycle - air intake,
compression, combustion and exhaust. Now, compare that with a 4-stroke engine. The piston
moving down will complete the air intake stroke. When it
moves up again, the piston completes the compression
stroke. Next comes the injection of fuel. Combustion
takes place. The piston is forced to move down by the
pressure of the gases. When the piston moves up again,
it drives out all the exhaust gases in the exhaust stroke. The piston in a 4-stroke engine will move 4 strokes in
order to complete the 4 stages of the combustion cycle
- air intake, compression, combustion and exhaust. The power developed in a 4-stroke engine is based on the
formula,Power = PLAN/2, where,P is the mean effective pressure inside the cylinder,L is the stroke length of the piston travel,A is the cylinder bore or the area of the piston top,N is the number of revolutions per unit time.In a 2-stroke engine, because the power is developed in
the same revolution, the formula for Power becomes,Power = PLANThis means that with the same mean effective pressure,
stroke length and bore (area), the 2-stroke engine can
develop twice the power of a 4-stroke engine! If size, weight, and material cost are causes for
concern, the 2-stroke engine has the clear advantage.Well folks, 2-strokes have the advantage of higher
power with small size. However, there are some
disadvantages too. That could be discussed later..."Have FUN with Watersports!" Discover the Great Outdoor

Dealing With Henry Hard-Nose ~ The Typical Insurance Adjuster

Author : Dan Baldyga
Most adjusters function like Henry Hard-Nose of Rock Solid Insurance Corporation. They're thick skinned and difficult to deal with. Below is a typical verbal exchange a month or so after you and Hard-Nose had last met in an attempt to settle. At that time he had taken the position that the injury to your shoulder was not as serious as your attending physicians Medical Report stated it was. (Question: Do they fight what your attending physician wrote in their report? Answer: Yes, absolutely! Take it from Dan, who was on that firing line for over 30 years). The following is a typical verbal settlement exchange after your last meeting had ended "up in the air" - - slowing floating around out there in outer space. You first - - and here's the counter argument you should make: "Look, with all due respect, you are not a doctor. You're no medical expert who has the know-how to second-guess my doctor. When we last met you said my shoulder was 'only a bruise' as opposed to a dislocation. I have again talked to my doctor and he remains firm about the accuracy of his original diagnosis. He states that I absolutely suffered a dislocation of my shoulder. But, even apart from his analysis, I'm the best judge of my own injury - - that is, how painful my life has been, and the suffering I've had to endure".At that point Hard-Nose will always attempt his usual tactic of interrupting your logic but stiffen up, wave him off and say, "Look, let me finish. You owe me that because it was your insured who flew through a Stop Sign and bashed into me. You and I both know he's one hundred percent at fault and if this talk about settling for my "pain and discomfort" gets any more one-sided I'm gonna be left with no choice but to hire myself a lawyer."Hard-Nose will stiffen up! Now, you proceed, "How is it sir, that its been over three months since this accident and there are times when I still suffer excruciating pains? How is it that I can't lift things like I used to? The truth is it hurts, it bothers me and it has disabled me. I've been enduring it but it's been awful and it has disrupted my life terribly. My shoulder is not a 'mere bruise' to me sir. Neither does my doctor say it is. He states that my shoulder was definitely dislocated and it will take several more months to clear up"!All of the above is an example of your central approach to the predictably belligerent, difficult-to-deal-with adjuster. You should be firm and aggressive but not hostile. Yours should be a thoughtful presentation that relies on the power and persuasiveness of a sound demand adequately documented and properly communicated. The three crucial questions you must ask Hard-Nose are:(#1) How much will you pay me for the damage to my motor vehicle and all other provable property damage? (#2) How much will you pay me as a fair settlement for my provable lost wages and medical expenses? (#3) How much will you pay me for my disability and my "Pain and Suffering"?In most instances Hard-Nose will head for the hills - - unwilling to give you a straight answer. He'll sidestep and do a slow waltz by asking you a loaded question like, "Okay, what do you think your claim is worth?"Such a question is predictable because Hard-Nose prefers that you're the one who makes the settlement demand first. Why? Because you may ask for less than what he was preparing to offer! And also because, if you make an excessive demand, he won't have committed himself to an offer which will have left no room for further negotiations. In other words, Hard-Nose is in his best position to exercise "command and control" over the manipulation (and setting) of the dollar amount to be paid when it's you that makes the settlement demand first, rather than he making the settlement offer. Don't provide him with this advantage! To win this crucial "game" he must suspect you're close to obtaining a lawyer to handle your case so you should insist on the offer (one that's realistic and made in good faith) to come from him before you make your demand. Why? Because at that point it's all about who gets to control the value of your claim - - you or Hard-Nose?It's not sufficient for Hard-Nose to merely come up with a phony offer. Carbon Fiber 101

Author : Jason Helferich
Carbon Fiber: What exactly is it??January 2005Who out there has heard of carbon fiber? Do you even know what it is? It has become apparent to me over the past few months that almost everyone in the sport compact scene is aware of carbon fiber as it explodes in popularity. It is being used to manufacture everything from the popular hoods to even fenders and interior pieces now. But another thing that became apparent is that although many enthusiasts are aware of it, very few actually know what it is. Well in this month's column we will discuss where carbon fiber came from, the properties of the material, and how it is used.Carbon fiber has been around for over fifty years with its earliest history in the aerospace and military industries. It was normally reserved to these industries as the costs of manufacturing carbon fiber were sky high, and cost consideration is low in these two industries. Only in recent years has production of carbon fiber climbed, therefore lowering the price and making its use more widespread.Carbon fiber can be produced in one of two ways. These are "wet" lay-up and pre-impregnated lay-up processes. The "wet" process has been used since the beginning of composites. It creates molded shapes from glass or carbon fiber and resin. Do-it-yourselfers use this practice extensively as it is the least labor intensive and expensive money wise. When manufactured in the "wet" lay-up, dry fibers are laid into a mold and resin is poured onto them. The resin is then brushed over the fibers in a relatively uncontrolled manner. Resin is added in layers and layers until the desired thickness is achieved. If this process is not performed correctly the fibers can become saturated with resin which causes added weight, and reduced strength and stiffness. This method can also create inconsistent products as certain areas are saturated and others are not thick enough.Pre-impregnated lay-up has been refined over the past 20 years to create better products with more predictable results. In this method the fibers are pre-impregnated with resin at the factory. It is then rolled onto spools and then frozen to prevent the material from curing too quickly. Materials made by this method are typically 20-30% stronger than "wet" laminate of the same thickness. Pre-impregnated lay-up materials can be cured in one of two ways: vacuum bag compaction and also vacuum bag compaction plus an auto clave. The composite is placed under vacuum bag compaction and is placed into an oven. The resin will then solidify or "glass." When the autoclave is used it essentially pressure cooks the fibers. The maximum allowable temperature of the cured laminate is used and the continuous temperature is lower. It is normally is between 250 and 350 degrees.Automakers first began experimenting with carbon fiber in the 1970s. Ford even built an entire car out of carbon fiber composites in 1977. In the 1990s GM manufactured a concept car out of carbon fiber that got 100mpg. The motivation for automakers is to produce vehicles with lower emissions, lighter weight, lower cost and better fuel economy. The problem carbon fiber has presented though in the past is its astronomical price compared to other materials. At one point, it cost $100 per pound versus .40 cents for steel. Nowadays though, the prices are hovering somewhere in the $5-$10 price range and it is making many other industries experiment with the material. Many enthusiasts purchase carbon fiber products solely for the looks, but they offer other benefits as well. Carbon fiber reinforced materials perform at higher rates for strength versus steel and aluminum. So the next time you think about purchasing a carbon fiber hood or other products, you will know how to investigate the manufacturing of the product to make sure you are getting what you are paying for. Carbon fiber is just getting started with a bright future ahead._________________Jason Helferichwww.streetstylecustoms.com

Waste Oil Storage Tips for Oil Changing Industry

Author : Lance Winslow
Everyone should be taking the precautions to insure that their waste oil is properly disposed of. This is important for a few reasons.1.) You will avoid waste oil accidents,2.) You will limit your legal liability, and3.) You will protect both your workers and the environment.4.) You should have a manual outlining proper diposalStore Waste Oil in sturdy, leak proof metal containers or in a tank approved by your local fire department. And in the cause of a commercial operation EPA Approved waster oil tanks. Always be sure to label the container or tank and the storage area in large letters: "Used Crankcase Oil." or "Used Engine Oil." Also remember to Keep containers closed unless you are adding or removing used oil. Place containers on a surface made from anonymous material (such as concrete) that waste oil cannot pass through or order a plastic container or storage bin, box or pool from the New Pig Catalog,http://www.newpig.comThe surfaces should have no cracks or gaps otherwise a breach in the container from any source could cause an accidental spill and cause harm before you can fix the problem or become aware that their is a leak. Store waste oil away from drains or ignition sources. Or textiles, towels, rags, old newspaper or anything that might soak up the spilled or leaked out oil. Otherwise you have all the makings of a spontaneous combustion situation and a fire can ruin your whole day, loss of structure or life.Lance Winslow - Online Think Tank forum board. Hours of Operation - Theory for Auto Shops

Author : Lance Winslow
Certainly we have seen an increase in older people of retiree age going back to work. So many factors make up this phenomena. 13.2% over 65 still work in some capacity. Why? Well because they can, because we need them and their humble approach to reality, having been through the hard knocks of the past and through tough times, they often do not take things for granted respect customers and have excellent work ethic. This is good. One third or more of these people we visited in Sun City live alone and of course they have time consuming hobbies or par time jobs to stay busy. So then when considering setting hours of your shop one must consider that these individuals need after 5 pm appointments. It is difficult in these retirement areas to change your own oil, the CC&Rs are outrageous, one person told us he put a flag on his mail box but had to remove it. It seems many of these 65 and older have joined the HOA as their contribution and sit in committees and act like government bureaucrats making stupid rules to keep everything sterile and unexciting like the socialist country we are becoming, with no one taking responsibility for anything and everyone suing each other for looking cross eyed? The 13.2% of over 65 age still working is an increase over the last five years of 50%. That is a significant trend that was predicted no less by the Yanklevich Group, and they are correct. The trend, well it is accelerating after many have lost their pension valuations to the 10 trillion lost in the stock market. Yes it will return, but if they take a draw while it is low they decrease their base money and the growth of the future will be severally hurt. How serious is this. Well right now the dollar is weak and there are more going to be employed making stuff. The Europeans are debt borrowing in a few countries and that is temporarily causing some inflation which will come back, then the dollar will have some inflation and right itself as a stronger currency in a few years and the Older crowd will have some of their nest egg back if they have not spent it all. But the under funded pensions are going to be the cog in the wheel and what we saw with those who lost pensions with Global Crossing, Enron, WorldCom is nothing. We are talking a huge scale. And we are talking all the Blue Chips. These people will need jobs and maybe you might hire them for your Oil Change Shop, you can trust them no doubt, they are not asking for a hand out and will put in an honest days work, unlike some of the work ethic challenged current work force. Now then with all this said and the trend continuing we see the problem of shop hours, These older folks which have been bread and butter to our industry for so many years will not be filling up you bays at 10 am any longer. People without jobs are coming less frequently due to not enough money to pay to change their oil and therefore prolong oil change interval out of necessity of their pocketbook, not the special oil additives or the G-4 guidelines or even the dealership changing oil for free. You might think about re-adjusting your hours of operation to maximize the usage of your facility to make sure you are getting the 13.2% of the older market you maybe missing right now. There are many ways to do this, some folks like to work late, some early. Look at your crews and scheduling and busy times, re-adjust and add an hour or two to your operation hours for a few weeks, see what happens?Lance Winslow - Online Think Tank forum board. 3 Fast Tips on How To Sell Your Car for the Most

Author : Graeme Sprigge
Tip 1 - Pick your time.
If you can possibly help it, don't sell your car after Christmas, when no one has any money. Consider holiday periods: will the people be in town or away. Sometimes this can work in your favour because if people are not at work they have more time to look for cars, and they are usually cashed up with nothing to do.On the reverse side, when buyers are busy working, they don't have the time to do a lot of car shopping, which can make negotiating easier.Additionally for this reason, if you get a buyer to come on a week-night, it is unlikely he can compare yours to other cars - which can sometimes work in your favour.Tip 2 - First Impressions are everything Just like you are going on a date - first impressions are everything. Get all the rubbish and junk out of it. Deodorize it. Wash it, clean it.Tip 3 - As the good boy scout says. Be prepared. Get your paperwork in order. Find the spare keys. You don't want to be rushing around at the last minute, just when the buyer is ready to go for it. You can't find something. He may just say, he'll get back to you. Believe me, it happens. So get organized before hand and you'll have a much smoother run of it.See my other articles for more tips.Graeme Sprigge is the webmaster of SellMyCarForCash.Com, a website dedicated to enlightening you on how to get the most for your car in a private sale. Maintaining Hose Reels in a Pressure Washing Business

Author : Lance Winslow
Many pressure washing companies will opt for automatic winding hose reels. Although on the surface this appears to be a good strategy to save time and make operations more efficient, it actually invites Murphy to strike. More moving parts and mechanism means more can go wrong and it will. It is easy to pinch the hose between the reel and reel's frame. We do not always recommend self winding hose reels. Some hand crank hose reels are better unless you have double steel braided hose and are working with 10,000 psi burst pressure, in that case the hoses are thick and hard to work with and difficult to roll up. In this case a self winding hose reel should be preferred, as it saves you time. If you over stack your hose reel with too much hose, the weight will cause the springs on the advance clicker to break and it will not catch. It will be continually trying to roll itself up while you are working. Too much hose length can also cause a problem by going past the limit of the internal coil spring. You can fix this by taking the reel apart. But, if you take it apart you will void the warranty. You should not spray the pressure washer while rolling up the hose. The pressure in the hose should be unloaded completely. If not this can cause the O-rings in your swivel to turn and come apart. Then your swivel will leak. New swivels cost $30-$55 for good ones. You can buy them at a hydraulic hose dealer or at a pressure washer sales company. If you buy one that holds 5000 PSI working pressure, this would be enough. If you buy a cheaper one, it will blow out soon, especially if that particular truck does a lot of steam cleaning. The hot water cuts the life in half, so it's important to go 'overkill' on the swivels.Greasing UnitSmall steps in preventative maintenance will increase the life of your hose reel. There are two grease points on most high pressure hose reels. You should grease them whenever it starts squeaking a lot or once a month under normal use. Your should keep a small grease gun on the work truck or in the cargo box on the pressure washer trailer. If you don't grease the fittings, you will cause scaring on the inside of the movable parts that will increase the risk of failure and cause excessive wear or failure of the O-rings. This is similar to brake rotors on a car when they scar and wear out brake pads quicker. You can buy O-rings kit and replace them yourself. Most O-ring repair kits come with simple instructions, be careful not to lose the little parts, each part is necessary and without each the unit will not work right and cause premature failure. Maintain your equipment, it is your livelihood. Think about it.Lance Winslow - Online Think Tank forum board. The combination of electric drive with the 7G-Tronic automatic transmission ensures that the S-Class "Hybrid" constantly operates at the optimum level. "This reduces fuel consumption by 15 to 25 percent depending on the driving cycle, while at the same time enhancing comfort," says Prof. Herbert Kohler, Head of the Vehicle Body and Drive Systems Directorate at DaimlerChrysler AG.Combining a V8 diesel engine with the latest generation of hybrid drive systems developed jointly by DaimlerChrysler and General Motors, Mercedes Benz introduces the S Class Hybrid, which unlike many conventional hybrids, the system dispenses with a torque converter; this is replaced by the hybrid-specific components. "The use of the 7G-Tronic automatic transmission makes for a comfort level that is unique in the world of hybrids," emphasized Weber. "Shifting is even faster and more convenient in continuously variable mode."Setting a new record for cars with hybrid drive system, the S Class has a maximum output of 340 horsepower. Buy Used Car Tips

Author : Nemanja Kuzmanovic
To buy used car is a great idea for saving money. Everyone knows that a new car lost 65% of its value in the first 5 years. But the case would be more extreme for a 1 to 2 years old car, it will lost its value 30-40%.If you don't mind to drive a used car (I mean a 2 to 5 years old car, it looks pretty new) rather than a new car, you may save much money to pay many other bills. If you want to keep the car not too old, you may resell it after driving for 2 to 3 years and buy another newer one. The value of the car will only drop 15% or less for a 5 years old car. Therefore, your driving cost for 2-3 years would only be 10-15% of the car's original value. The price quote above was only the price you buy from an ordinary car dealer. However, you can buy it much cheaper online. Before entering the dealershipBefore you step foot on a dealership lot, there are several things you need to think about, including what type of vehicle you can afford, what type of car is right for you, and what your credit history consists of.Once you decide on type of car you need it is time to do your research to narrow down the choices. A number of resources on this site can provide you comparison information rating the vehicles within specific categories. Compare such areas as safety, reliability, fuel economy, warranties, operating costs, theft rates, general features, and options when making you decision. How to achieve the best used car price?Don't buy the first thing you see, or in this case don't believe them when they say that they are the ones with the lowest new car and used car prices, they have to say that, it's their tactics!
